Avocado Mask for Dry Skin
Tuesday, August 5th, 2008Avocado has been a spa favorite for ages, rich in potassium, sterolins, vitamins A, D and E and many more ingredients that makes an avocado mask a treat for any skin type.
Potassium, also known as the “youth mineral” hydrates and restores the skin’s elasticity. Avocados are rich in potassium and this is one of the reasons why the avocado mask is so effective for dry skin. Sterolins help to give you that beautiful even complection by treating spots, scars and age marks.
You can make your avocado mask with common ingredients that you probably already have in your kitchen or could pick up at most grocery stores.
Here’s what you need:
50-60g ripe avocado meat
30g orange juice
1 teaspoon honey
1teaspoon molasses
2-3 drops of chamomile essential oil
Mix all the ingredients thoroughly, use a blender or a mixing spoon. Gently wash your face and neck with warm water and pat dry. Gently apply the mask to face and neck with your hands and make sure not to massage it in too deeply. Leave the mask on for about half an hour, keeping the mask on any longer will not make it more effective and could actually do more harm than good.
Should the mask be too thick to your liking, you could always add some more orange juice or perhaps add some lemon juice to thin the mixture. Be careful to only use a little lemon juice.
The honey in the mask sterilizes and is also a good anti-inflammatory. It also promotes hydration of the skin and if you find that your skin is slightly sensitive to the avocado mask, you can add a little more honey to the mix.
Should you find that your skin is sensitive to this mask, gently rinse it off with warm water and a soft cloth. You can try and add some honey to the mixture but I would advise that your rather not use this mask.
There are many products out there that contain avocado like SpaSensials* 4-Step Radiant Facial Treatment System (2 Treatments) and Hobe - Beauty Oil, Avocado 4 Oz that are simply amazing should you not want mix your own batches.
